Level Design Challenge Unreal Engine
Intro
Submission For the Level Design challenge For https://itch.io/jam/ld-jam-9/entries
I was trying to incorporated at aleast one of the 2 themes into this level - and I was thinking of doing that via sound, you can probably see remnants of that from some of the random sounds you may hear after certain circumstances are met (dying after a number of times).
The Music aspect really would have been cool if I could have completed that for this becasue what I had envisoned was the player creating sounds throughout the level as they played it, tying into the 4'33" a bit, but there was a lot more coding going into that than i anticipated and I had to pivot lol.
But I'm going to put it on the backlog because I eally want to see what that would look like here and may just do it anyway.
Below you can see my thought process withthis level, it did evolve as I created it becasue I kept running into issue when trying to set cering things up in certain ways. Most of these obstacles were not coded to do the things they are doing so some of my level designing time was spent doing that, but I did use an already created project from unreal as a base for this called Stack-O-Bots.
level Design Challenge
BlockOut Only
Short Level: 3-6 minutes long
Theme: 4:33(player creates notes/sound(?)in environment involuntarilyish, but a platforming puzzleish but its an easy level??)
Goals: calm the mushroom spore generator down? Trigger buttons that trigger the mushroom to calm down.
Context: magical town and the mushroom apothecary factory has a problem. The spores are out of control and the mother mushroom needs her music - the safety button is a bit out of reach and the vents are spitting out a bit more spore air because of the over load. Dodage and traverse the factory to fix the system and bring calmness back to the apothecary.

- Pressure Pad to operate

What platform items will the 2nd section have

How do i keep the player from going to the 2nd level before completing the 1st?
Activate the stomper/platform once the 2nd cube is released
How do I make sure a player doesn't accidently get stuck after opening the 2nd door?create a platform that activates upon level completion
Sequence:
- -Level starts with player seeing A Tower light Glowing red(magical mushroom factories Main Big mushroom is overloaded)
- -speak with an npc who tells them they need to retune the drums that keep the big mushroom underloaded
- -Npc says there are 2 pressure plates that need to be pushed to set off hums that turn the light green.
- -Player starts towards the first room via a fan - the room has 2 pressure plates and one cube in a glass case with a door - player stands on plates and releases cube and finds out which plate keeps door open.
- -Player puts cube on plate and proceeds to the next room
- -Player will traverse a platform of systems to get to box and get that box to a pressure plate to release a 2nd cube
- -1st floor, 2nd floor system(think factoryish) with stompers/punchers and fans that can push the player off or back to a respawn point,
- -not very long so should not feel too punishing
- -2nd floor will be another set of systems to the released cube and accompanying pressure plate that will trigger the mushrooms to go back to normal
- -this will also trigger a door to open behind them to the mushroom tower
- -this will also trigger a platform to the first floor(incase a player falls off)
- -Use of ramps, fans and pressure plates
- -Player will see the tower/fan lights turn green
- -and the npc from the beginning of the level at the end with the player to tell them thankyou
